Foundation Stage

Children in the foundation stage have access to first hand experiences based upon play, communication and exploring. Teachers and their assistants provide the opportunity to:

  1. tackle open-ended challenges and experience problem-solving which calls for innovative solutions in the subject curriculum
  2. contribute as digital authors, using mixed media presentation and audio and video editing tools, to build their own ‘digital essays’ on issues of the day;
  3. be invited to participate in competitions and team challenges ranging from practical activities like ‘build the tallest Burj’ out of paper and tape, to ‘turn the school green’ and ‘plan a global response to a flood disaster in Peru’;
  4. take part in activities they nominate themselves to improve the school site and operations;
  5. undertake team, leadership, outdoor challenge and entrepreneurial activities in every year;
  6. take part in global communications and exchanges which bring them into contact with global diversity;
  7. consider solutions to regional challenges (shortage of water, economic diversification);
  8. . consider ‘next practices’ (coming solutions in areas such as energy-generation, moving to electric cars, etc.);
  9. study the heritage, culture and values of the region.

All teachers and early childhood educators work as an active, contributing part of a team, in order to:

  1. tackle open-ended challenges and experience problem-solving which calls for innovative solutions in the subject curriculum
  2. Liaise with the ICT coordinator for guidance on integration strategies and to seek particular training or support
  3. Use a variety of strategies to incorporate ICT to meet the particular learning needs of individual students
  4. Provide opportunities to work with ICT to support learning, both in the classroom and independently elsewhere
  5. Liaise with other departments, as well as the ICT department, to thematically approach topics where ICT projects can be used to support integrated learning
  6. Encourage students to research, analyse and evaluate internet content that supports/enriches learning
  7. Plan for frequent ICT use in lessons across the curriculum
  8. Use assistive technologies and appropriate software to support students with special education needs and to enhance the learning of gifted and talented students
  9. Work as team members to share successes and best practices for integrating technologies as tools for learning across the curriculum
  10. Be examples of effective technology users
